Art Is...

This image is of a piece of work that my former roommate, Andy Luce, gave to me when he moved to Chicago. It is a mixed media piece mounted on a door that he got off of the side of the road. The image that is repeated throughout is that of Malcolm X. Though many people may disagree with X's beliefs or methods of communicating, there is no argument that he was a revolutionary...

Why is it that people only focus on what they disagree about when viewing a person rather than what commonalities that are shared? That would make for much more peace in everyday life. People like Rush Limbaugh (who is strictly an entertainer in the sense that Jon Stewart is) would have no audience. It really saddens me to see people that really think someone who flies off the handle and is willing to put into words that things that many of us sometimes think, but know that these are merely our own biases swaying us away from better reasoning.

I often feel guilty for bringing up politics, but I can't help it. Our system is a joke. Yes we life in a wonderful, "safe" place, but how can so much corruption be tolerated. I think that this is one of the reasons that I cannot be a traditional journalist. I simply can not sit and report on things that I need to be involved in. For example: If there is corruption going on around me, I am not likely to collect my thoughts and let the world know, but I am going to step in and catch someone by surprise. In saying this I am not criticizing the field of journalism, but rather stating that I do not have near the amount of self control that I would need for such a line of work. I wear my emotions on my forehead. I am very thankful that people do exist that are capable of putting their reservations aside to subjectively approach important issues.

As hard as I try, I just can't do it.
