Well, to go ahead and clear the table, I am writing this to let people know about some friends of mine that are getting ready to do something amazing. www.fallingwhistlesbiketour.com This is their link, and everyone needs to check it out and look into their cause.
Tony Sasso, Ben Sasso, and Seth Williams (not a Sasso) are going to ride bicycles from St. Augustine (FL) to San Diego (CA) to raise awareness about the children who are losing their lives daily in the Congo (Democratic Republic of...) These children are kidnapped and forced to fight for someone else's cause. These three guys are taking steps each day closer to this epic journey, but their trip wasn't always going to be so epic.
Originally, Ben and Tony (brothers Sasso) were planning on riding a tandem across the country, but after watching a few "High-Energy" tandem touring videos they realized how lame it would be to ride a tandem bike day in and day out for two months. Not too long therafter Seth came along. The three of them started talking and figured "why not do this for a righteuos cause?"
So the wheels were turning (figuratively), and the guys knew that this could be something much bigger...
(I'm not too keen on some of the details concerning Falling Whistles, but there site is an awesome reference. Read the "Story.")
A guy that Ben and Seth know through Invisible Children (www.invisiblechildren.com) named Sean has started the organization Falling Whistles to raise awareness about the children being forced into warfare in the Congo, more particularly the youngest of these children. The name "Falling Whistles" has a deep, but grim meaning behind it. The youngest of the boys who are forced to fight, but can't yet carry a gun are given just whistles that they blow to scare the enemies. These "falling whistles" are used as mere human shields. This grim reality is unthinkable when the thought of a young boy brings to mind running, playing and the simple, carefree lives that most young children live.
Please check out these guys' website and look into their cause. Forward the link, tell everyone you know about it. www.fallingwhistlesbiketour.com
